Why Aria & Ezra were Chosen for First PLL Proposal

We got a shocking twist with Ezra proposing to Aria in Pretty Little Liars “Along Comes Mary” and it ended on a cliffhanger. (It was PLL co-executive producer Bryan Holdman’s idea to have the proposal as a cliffhanger). We’ll have to wait until the next episode to find out Aria’s answer. PLL showrunner Marlene King explained how the writers chose Ezria for first PLL proposal. She spilled lots of details about the beautiful proposal scene.

So why was Ezria chosen instead of the other PLL couples like Haleb or Spoby? “We plotted this out when we first started this year, and we just thought because they were the first couple, we thought they should be the first to get engaged” Marlene King told ET.

In fact, this wasn’t the first time the writers considered an Ezria proposal. Ezra almost proposed to Aria in season 5. “I will say there was almost a proposal in season five and we pulled back from that story, but, yes, it was going to be Aria and Ezra.”

PLL 7x02 Sneak Peek: Liam Calls Ezra a Predator

Get ready for an Aria-Ezra-Liam love triangle. Liam implies that Ezra is a predator in this sneak peek of Pretty Little Liars episode 7x02 “Bedlam”.

Aria hasn’t talked to Liam in a while and she’s been ignoring his calls. Liam knows Aria and Ezra used to be in love. So maybe Liam suspects there’s something going on between Aria and Ezra again? Liam definitely goes on the offensive in “Bedlam”.

Ezra and Liam have a meeting about Ezra’s book, but Liam’s thinly veiled insults make the meeting uncomfortable. Liam suddenly sees a problem with Ezra’s book. Liam starts off by saying Ezra’s main character is a predator because he dated an inappropriately younger girl. Liam says it will make the readers’ skin crawl.

Ezra says there isn’t much of an age difference between the two characters. Liam says Ezra is justifying his actions. Liam thinks there is a friction between Ezra’s chapters and Aria’s chapters. He doesn’t want Aria to look foolish, like she got talked into something she didn’t want.

Ezra immediately notices that Liam slipped and said “Aria” instead of “Aria’s character”. Liam claims it is his job to protect both Ezra and Aria from poor judgment and avoidable bad choices.

PLL 6x19 Sneak Peek: Aria and Ezra

Ezra second-guesses his writing in this sneak peek of Pretty Little Liars 6x19 “Did You Miss Me?”

Aria’s boss, Jillian, is making a stop in Rosewood.  Jillian wants to buy Ezra and Aria dinner at The Radley.

Ezra is concerned about his writing.  He isn’t comfortable with the scene where the guy in the book drives off and looks back at the girl. 

Aria thinks it is a lovely scene, but Ezra still doesn’t like it.  Aria tells him to figure out what is bothering him about the scene.

After Ezra leaves the room, Aria stares at a photograph of Nicole on Ezra’s desk.

PLL 6x13 Sneak Peek: Aria & Ezra Have Lunch

Aria finds out Ezra has a drinking problem in this sneak peek of Pretty Little Liars 6x13 “The Gloves Are On”.

Aria and Ezra have lunch at The Radley hotel to discuss Ezra’s book.  Aria looked at Ezra’s thumb drive in 6x12 “Charlotte’s Web”, but it only contained research on Nicole's death.  Ezra knows Aria won't give up, so he gives her the first chapter of his book.  He was writing it in Colombia, but then Nicole was kidnapped.  He never finished the second chapter. 

Hanna’s mom, Ashley Marin, is now the manager at the hotel.  She tells Ezra that they won’t serve him the beer that he ordered.  After a previous incident involving Ezra, The Radley is cutting him off from any alcohol.

Ezra is clearly going through a hard time.  He yells at the Liars in the promo for 6x13.

PLL 6x11 Sneak Peek: Aria & Dad Talk About Ezra & Liam

Is Aria going to be torn between her new boyfriend Liam and her old boyfriend Ezra in the second half of season 6?  In this sneak peek of PLL 6x11 “Of Late I Think of Rosewood” Aria talks to her dad about Liam and Ezra.

Aria’s new boyfriend, Liam, is making a good impression on Aria’s dad.  Aria hands her dad (Byron Montgomery) a gift from Liam.  Liam wanted him to have the James Tiptree book of short stories.

Aria’s dad is surprised that Aria plans to meet up with the rest of the Liars at The Brew, instead of at the new Radley.  Aria had no idea that Ezra was back in Rosewood.  Apparently, Ezra still owns The Brew and he moved into the apartment above it.

Lucy Hale Talks Ezra & New Love Liam on PLL (6B Spoilers)

The second half of Pretty Little Liars season six will be rough for Ezria fans.  In the November special of PLL “Five Years Forward”, Lucy Hale revealed that her character Aria is in love with Liam.  Lucy has now given even more details about Aria’s love life in season 6B.  Seems like Aria will be torn between her new love Liam and her former love Ezra.

When we start PLL season 6B, it will seem like Aria has moved on.  Aria is “very happy and in love” with her new boyfriend Liam, Lucy Hale told People.

However, that doesn’t mean Aria’s feelings for Ezra are completely gone.  “That's what happens, you break up with the person you love, you go in different directions, and so I don't really know what their contact was in those five years. I want to say they probably didn't talk at all, because there is a scene in an episode back where she realizes he's back in town and you can tell there's still that butterflies-in-her-stomach feeling,” Lucy said.

And even if Aria and Ezra aren’t dating, they will still have a lot of interaction with each other.  However, their relationship has evolved.  “It's sort of a different kind of a relationship.  You've never seen them have a mature friendship like this, and they start working with each other.”

Lucy Hale Spills Season 6B Ezria Spoilers

Lucy Hale, Aria on PLL, gave some spoilers about Pretty Little Liars season 6B in an interview with AOL. 

The second half of PLL season six takes place five years later.  Alison begs the Liars to come back to Rosewood, which is where the remainder of the sixth and the seventh season will take place.  Although the girls have lived an “A”-free life for five years, it looks like “A” is back destroying the Liars.

There is friction between the girls and Alison, but the girls are still best friends.

Don’t expect to see Aria and Ezra back together right away.  After Aria and Ezra say goodbye to each other, they go off and live separate lives.  Ezra develops a relationship with another woman.  Aria is also with someone else. 

There’s still hope for Ezria, though.  When Ezra and Aria see each other again, their chemistry is undeniable.  Lucy is hoping for a big marriage episode on PLL.

PLL 6x02 Sneak Peek: Aria and Ezra at The Brew

Ezra offers Aria some unwanted advice in this PLL sneak peek of 6x02 "Songs of Innocence".

Now that Aria is free from the dollhouse, she is throwing herself back into photography.  She is at The Brew going through her camera equipment when Ezra stops by.  Aria thanks him for saving her from “A”.  She assures him that she will be okay.

Ezra suggests that Aria check in with herself.  She can write about her experiences and put it down on paper.  Aria immediately rejects that idea.  Ezra clarifies that she should write it in a journal for herself, not for public consumption.

Upset, Aria repeats that she isn’t going to do that.  She doesn’t want to own it, memorialize it, or think about it being in a diary somewhere in her room.  Aria wants a nice, big wall between ‘before’ and ‘after’.

Ezra and Aria are Soulmates on PLL

Ezra and Aria are going through a rough patch, but the good news for Ezria fans is that the PLL writers seem to think Ezra and Aria are endgame.

PLL showrunner Marlene King said that Ezra and Aria are soulmates even when they aren’t together.  Marlene has also said that it was necessary for Ezra and Aria to break up while Aria experiences young adult life.

PLL producer Joseph Dougherty acknowledged that Ezria is the relationship that crossed the most lines.

Lucy Hale (Aria on PLL) and Ian Harding (Ezra on PLL) both support the Ezria relationship, particularly now that Ezra is fully aware of the “A” situation.  Lucy Hale thinks her character is now able to open up to Ezra in a way that she was unable to in previous seasons.

Ian Harding also likes how the PLL guys are now more incorporated.  It feels less like secrets and more like they are all battling “A” together.  They knew “A” was dangerous, but they are starting to realize that “A” is also sinister, sadistic and violent.

PLL Romance Spoilers for Season 6

It’s time for a PLL romance checkup for season 6.  Things look pretty bleak for the Liars, since they will be traumatized from their time spent trapped in the dollhouse.  What’s in store for them romantically when they finally escape the dollhouse?  Pretty Little Liars executive producer Oliver Goldstick spilled some juicy spoilers to ET Online for Hanna, Aria, Spencer, Emily and Alison’s love lives.

Hanna and Caleb have always had a relatively stable relationship.  They have always had each other’s backs and have been supportive.  However, they may start to have some issues in season 6.  After escaping from the dollhouse, Hanna may start pushing Caleb away.

"Because of her trauma, she might not be able to appreciate how great Caleb is right away in [season] six”, Oliver Goldstick said.  Caleb, however, will continue to be the sweet boyfriend that we love.  "I think he's always been there to support her with every decision she makes, and I think he remains the perfect boyfriend in so many ways."  So it looks like there is still hope for Haleb fans.

Aria and Ezra have had ups and downs for the past few years and at the end of season 5 they were no longer together.  They managed to make it through the bombshell reveal that Ezra was keeping secrets and writing a book about Alison.  However, things started to fall apart when Ezra realized that Aria regretted missing out on the typical high school experience because of her secret relationship with him,.  Ezra thought Aria spending time away from him was the only way to have a healthy relationship in the future, but that pushed her closer to Andrew Campbell.

Andrew seemed pretty sweet and he clearly wanted to be the guy Aria turned to.  He acted a little suspicious the night Aria’s brother got beat up, though.  We also saw him eavesdropping on a phone conversation between Spencer's mom and Melissa.  And we can’t forget that “A”’s lair was at the old Campbell farm.  Which guy is in Aria’s future?

Oliver Goldstick gives some hope to all the Ezria shippers.  Looks like it isn’t going to be easy for Aria to stay away from Ezra.  “Part of her knows that she and Ezra need to go their separate ways, but something happens in the beginning of [season] six A that brings them very close together again.  This will be a challenge and they're both going to have to deal with it. It's a mixed message from the universe."

Don’t expect Ezra and Aria to get together right away, though.  PLL showrunner Marlene King said Aria and Ezra's breakup was necessary.

Spencer and Toby started having issues when Toby became a Rosewood police officer.  Spencer ended up kissing two guys, Johnny and British hottie Colin, when Toby kept pushing her away.  Spencer and Toby didn't break up, though.  They  kissed before "A" kidnapped Spencer.  However, in season 6 Spencer is going to be a bit preoccupied with investigating “A”.  That’s going to put her romantic life on the back burner for a while.

"Spencer will be challenged as well, but the great news is she's got an inside track at the Rosewood PD.  So Spencer -- who has always led a lot of this mystery train -- holds the key because she was obviously the first one to see [Charles'] movie.  I would just say that her romance may get a little addled by the mystery of it all, but that doesn’t mean her romance goes away completely".  So it doesn’t seem like we will see that much of Spoby in season 6.

Emily hasn’t had much luck in the romance department.  Her first girlfriend, Maya, is thought to be dead.  And her on-again/off-again girlfriend Paige moved to California.  Her romance with The Brew’s chef Talia was short-lived and seemed doomed to fail since she was married.  It looks like Emily has already met her soul mate, though.

"She might just realize that she's now got a soul mate closer to her than she ever thought.  And the dollhouse will have been a big factor in a shift of what Emily wants in a partner. Who and what she wants", Oliver said.

What does this mean for Paily and Emison fans?  We know Paige will be making an appearance in season 6.  Do you think Emily realizes Paige is her soul mate?  And is Maya really dead?  There have been hints that “A” may have tried to kill Maya.

Alison’s stint in jail meant that she didn’t have much of a romance life.  She was a bit busy fighting for her life.  Now that she’s out of jail, however, she may start up a new, unexpected romance.

"I think you're going to be excited that there's life after prison for Alison and that she doesn’t have to wear orange.  Once she puts on a different color she may be attracted to somebody in Rosewood who you won't expect -- an unlikely person. And an unlikely person might find her very attractive."

An ‘unlikely person’ is a pretty vague clue.  Anyone hoping for Alison and Noel hookup?  We still don’t know why Noel was helping Ali while she was on the run, but it seems like there is more to that story.

Or do you think the unlikely person could be Lucas?  Lucas has always hated Alison for bullying him.  He is one of the last people you would expect to hook up with Alison, which would make him an unlikely person.

Of course, it could also be a character we haven’t met before.  From behind-the-scenes photos that Sasha Pieterese posted, we know that Alison will meet Lorenzo Calderon, a new Rosewood police officer played by Travis Winfrey.  Maybe we'll see some sparks fly between Alison and Lorenzo?

No spoilers for Mona’s love life, but Mona and Mike are such a good couple.  Mona genuinely seemed to care about Mike and Mike was clearly in love with Mona.  Hope they continue dating when Mike finds out that Mona isn’t dead after all.

Ezria Not Getting Back Together Soon

Don’t expect to see Aria and Ezra back together anytime soon.  PLL showrunner Marlene King told Yahoo!TV that Ezra and Aria’s breakup was a decision she feels strongly about.

"Some of our older, more mature viewers [agreed] that if you’re ever going to succeed you’ve gotta take a break and come at this relationship again post-college, or at least after Aria has a chance to go experience young adult life. The younger fans were really upset about it. It was a group divided. But we really still feel strongly about that creative choice and that it’s important. If Ezria does ultimately get back together, it will be because of this decision" Marlene said.

Do you agree that Aria and Ezra need to take some time apart from each other?  Do you eventually want to see them get back together?

PLL Sneak Peek 5x22: Emily Asks Ezra About Varjak

Emily tries to track down Varjak in this sneak peek of Pretty Little Liars “To Plea or Not to Plea” episode 5x22.

Emily is desperate to find Varjak and help Hanna, but Ezra has never come across the name Varjak in his research.  Ezra wonders if Alison knew him, since Hanna found that Holly Varjak passport in Alison’s attic. 

Emily says that passport was planted there.  Everything the lawyer gave them was a setup.  It could have been set up by Mona or “A”.

Ezra asks Emily about Mona’s lawyer, James Neilan.  Mona was working for “A” at that time, so Ezra thinks Neilan was in on it.

PLL 5x17 Sneak Peek: Aria Still Can’t Come Clean About the Letter

Aria finally tells Ezra that she got into Talmadge in this Pretty Little Liars 5x17 sneak peek.  Ezra is happy for Aria.  Talmadge is a huge school, so she probably won’t run into Jackie.  He tells her not to let Jackie ruin college for her.  Ezra has to leave, but they make plans to celebrate later.

PLL 5x15 Sneak Peek: Emily’s Work Conflict

In this sneak peak of Pretty Little Liars 5x15, Emily is having trouble getting along with a new coworker at The Brew.  Ezra, now the new owner of The Brew, offers to talk to the new girl.  Emily wants to work it out on her own.

Aria wants to talk to Ezra, but he’s busy with his new duties at The Brew.

Ezra and Mike Scenes on PLL Soon?

Will we be getting some Ezra and Mike scenes on Pretty Little Liars?  When PLL writer Joseph Dougherty was asked about Ezra/Mike scenes, Joseph tweeted “I’m thinking yes”.

Ezra (Aria’s boyfriend) and Mike (Aria’s little brother) have a complicated history.  When Ezra told the Montgomery family that he was in love with Aria, Mike responded by punching him.  However, Ezra stopped Mike from getting expelled when Conner’s car was smashed.  (Conner was the guy who got pissed when Aria rejected him, so he told the lacrosse team that Aria hooked up with him.  He also called her a slut because of her relationship with Ezra).

It would be pretty great to get some Ezra and Mike scenes where they are working together.  Despite their differences, they both care about Aria.  Maybe they’ll team up to fight against “A”?

Ezra and Andrew Working Together in PLL Season 5 Finale?

In the Pretty Little Liars season 5 finale “Welcome to the Dollhouse” 5x25, will Ezra and Andrew team up?

Of course, this photo doesn’t mean that their characters are in the same scene together. Maybe they were both just on set that day.

It would be pretty cool to see Ezra and Andrew working together though, since they haven’t had any interactions together so far.  And we know we will be getting some Ezra and Caleb (Ezreb) in 5x24 “I’m a Good Girl, I Am”.  Can’t wait to see all these new character pairings!

Can’t wait to get some answers about “A” on the PLL season five finale!

Lucy Hale on Theory That Aria is “A” and Ezria Trouble

Lucy Hale talked to ETonline about the popular fan theory is that Aria is actually “A” on Pretty Little Liars.

Lucy has heard those theories and she knows fans have picked up on little things that the show has purposely put in.  Lucy thinks it would make sense if Aria was “A”, especially since Aria is always missing from the group of Liars.

Lucy would love it if her character actually turned out to be “A”.    “As an actor, everyone wants to play the bad guy”, Lucy said.

Lucy has begged to find out who “A” is, but no one will tell her.  Lucy thinks her co-stars Troian Bellisario (Spencer on PLL) and Ashley Benson (Hanna on PLL) found out who “A” is on accident and weren’t really supposed to know.  The show wants to keep the identity of “A” a secret, since someone might accidentally spill who "A" is.

Lucy would have loved if Ezra turned out to be “A”, since it would be such a huge twist.

Lucy has also spilled that Ezra will give Aria a really touching gift in the PLL Christmas episode “How the ‘A’ Stole Christmas” 5x13.

Lucy hinted that it won’t be all smooth sailing for Aria and Ezra’s relationship.  “There’s some things that go down with Aria and Ezra, but it’s for the good.  It will end up being good.  You might be a little upset during part of it”.

Ezreb Coming Up at End of Season 5 of PLL

Get ready for some Ezreb fun!  Looks like Ezra and Caleb will be having a bromance on Pretty Little Liars.

Always nice to see a bromance on Pretty Little Liars.  The introduction of Ezreb will be in “I’m a Good Girl, I Am” PLL episode 5x24.

PLL Boys Ian Harding, Keegan Allen and Tyler Blackburn Dish on Season 5 Relationships (Spoiler Alert)

Ian Harding (Ezra), Keegan Allen (Toby) and Tyler Blackburn (Caleb) appeared on an episode of “Drinking With the Stars” for The Wrap.  The boys of Pretty Little Liars gave us some hints on what to expect in season five of PLL.

Ian Harding was asked if the Ali Ezra romantic relationship (Ezrison) is completely done.  Ian Harding can’t say for sure what the writers will do, but in his opinion there is no romance between Ezra and Ali anymore.  Ezra made a mistake being with Alison.  He thought Ali was older and a completely different person.  Afterwards, Ezra realized that the relationship was bad and put the kabosh on it.

Keegan Allen was asked about the Spencer Toby relationship (Spoby) for season five.  Keegan says that Toby will be back from London (after going there last season to get Melissa to come back to Rosewood) and there’s a lot more truth going on in their relationship.  Unfortunately, “A” is ruining everything and a lot more secrets get opened now that Ali is back in Rosewood. 

Tyler Blackburn says that Ravenswood ended in a mysterious way, so there is a lot to tie up.  Caleb comes back to Rosewood not fully understanding what has happened and wishing that things could go back to the way they were before.  Caleb shows up very lost and damaged.  Hanna, who he is still in love with, is with another guy.   (Bad news for Haleb fans!)  Since Caleb returns in a dark place, he will do some uncharacteristic things.    

Looks like all the relationships on Pretty Little Liars are going to be pretty complicated in season five.  Which pair are you supporting?  Ezria, Spoby or Haleb?
