The whole thing started when Lucy Hale shared this photo on Twitter with the caption "Don't go into the light, Carol Anne" (Poltergeist movie reference):
Someone commented on the photo, calling Lucy Hale "anorexic”. He also told her to eat a hamburger.
"@lucyhale No straight men are signing off on that anorexic look 👀--that's for gay guys & fashionistas, we want you to please eat a hamburger " he tweeted.
In a series of tweets, Lucy Hale expressed her disgust at the comment.
“I am disgusted that a man would even think of saying these absolutely awful words to a woman. You should be ashamed of yourself,” Lucy tweeted.

Lucy Hale has been open about her past struggles with an eating disorder. Back in 2012, Lucy told Cosmopolitan that she wouldn't eat for days.
“I’ve never really talked about this, but I would go days without eating. Or maybe I’d have some fruit and then go to the gym for three hours. I knew I had a problem … It was a gradual process but I changed myself.”
Lucy Hale is now at a point where she accepts herself for who she is. “There are good days and bad days, but I’ve found [self-assurance] really does come with age. I think you hit a point where you accept who you are and what you look like and you kind of just roll with it. You find out what you like and what your strengths and weaknesses are — it develops over time,” Lucy told People.
Recently, Lucy Hale has had to deal with a lot of scrutiny about her body weight. A few months ago, Lucy Hale apologized to fans after she was accused of fat shaming herself.
Lucy Hale's co-star Sasha Pieterse has also dealt with body shamers who wrote hurtful comments about her weight. Sasha Pieterse recently fought back tears as she talked about the painful experience.
The Pretty Little Liars actresses have always encouraged self-acceptance. Sasha Pieterse emphasized self-acceptance in her open letter regarding criticism of her weight. Ashley Benson has also spoken up about being called "too fat". Troian Bellisario has opened up about her struggle with an eating disorders when she was younger. And both Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario have spoke up against the heavy use of photo shop, emphasizing that they all have flaws.
