Ashley Benson Told She's “Too Fat” for Role

Ashley Benson, Hanna on Pretty Little Liars, is a stunning actress.  Unfortunately, she’s had to deal with judgements about her weight.  Ashley recently shared with Ocean Drive magazine that she didn’t land a role because she was “too fat”, despite being a size 2.  Ashley was devastated, but the experience made her a stronger person.

“I was just told I was too fat for a part. I’m a size 2!  I cried for 30 minutes, but then you have to let it roll off your shoulders or it could cause a serious eating disorder”  Ashley said.

Ashley knows this happens to other women, too.  She sees it as a problem with the entertainment industry.  “A lot of people in this industry hear they need to lose weight more times than they should. It does make you stronger, though. Because if you let that affect you, you can’t be in this industry — you’d go crazy” Ashley said.

Every actress on Pretty Little Liars is absolutely gorgeous, but this isn’t the first time they’ve had to deal with this topic.  Back in June, Sasha Pieterse (Alison on PLL) wrote a classy response to criticism of and comments regarding her weight.  And Troian Bellisario (Spencer on PLL) and Lucy Hale (Aria on PLL) have publicly talked about struggling with eating disorders when they were younger.

The Pretty Little Liars actresses have always spoken up about this unrealistic standard of beauty.  The PLL cast weren’t happy when previous Pretty Little Liars posters were heavily Photoshopped. 

How crazy is it that Ashley Benson would be rejected from a role for being “too fat”?
