Top Ten Mona Vanderwaal Quotes

In honor of television’s best villain, here are ten awesome quotes from PLL’s Mona Vanderwaal.

  1. “When someone shows me who they are I believe them.  I don’t need to be taught a lesson more than once.” (“Miss Me x 100”, 5x05)
  2. “I really loved you once and I really was your friend.” (To Hanna, “‘A’ Is For Alive” 4x01)
  3. “I’m waving a white La Perla.  That’s like the international peace symbol.”  ("Moments Later" 1x11)
  4. “Um, are your legs always that short?” (To Aria, “Never Letting Go” 2x06)
  5. “Look.  I’ll take heels over a hoodie any day of the week, but just because I’m not “A” anymore doesn’t mean I can’t recon your asses when I need to.  So yeah, I have proof.” (“Under the Gun” 4x06)
  6. “You really were the weakest link.  Look how strong I made you.  You should be thanking me.”  (to Emily, “‘A’ is for A-L-I-V-E” 4x01)
  7. “Noel broke up with me and I don’t even know why, so I hit these amazing sales thinking I could just shop the pain away and I bought, like five cashmere blend sweater sets.  Have you ever seen me in a sweater set?  No, because I don’t wear sweater sets!  Or blends.  I think he broke me.”  (“Let the Water Hold Me Down” 2x16)
  8. Hanna:  "You are not starved, you just had a whole bowl of jelly beans.” Mona:  "They were complimentary."  (“Touched by an A-ngel” 2x10)
  9. “I listen to every drawn-out whiny detail when you have a problem with Caleb and you can’t even bother to nod your head and pretend like you care … I just poured my heart out to someone who cares more about her homecoming photo than her friend.  Could you be any more selfish?” (“Let the Water Hold Me Down” 2x16)
  10. “If I could live through Alison DiLaurentis and her nonstop torture, I can handle some radioactive texting.”  ("Breaking the Code" 2x21)

Shay Mitchell shared her beauty secrets with ELLE and Olay.  Shay’s beauty secret is working out and sweating.  She feels most beautiful when she’s healthy on the inside and out, which she can see when her skin glows.

Shay’s best beauty moment is doing something that feels good, like dancing.  She tries to take in as many experiences as she can get and learns everyday what she likes and doesn’t like.  She’s becoming more confident with who she is.

Jennifer Morrison (“Once Upon a Time”), Xosha Roquemore (“The Mindy Project”) and Emily Wickersham (“NCIS”) also shared their beauty secrets.

RIP Mona Vanderwaal

Tuesday night, “Pretty Little Liars” lost Mona Vanderwaal, the original “A” and the character we love to hate.

I have to admit, Mona was probably my favorite on the show.  Mona was such a complex character.  She could be diabolically evil, but she also had such vulnerability and sadness.  Janel Parrish really brought out so many layers to Mona.  Of all the liars on the show, Mona was honestly one of the last ones that I wanted to see die.

Any hope of seeing Mona return to “Pretty Little Liars”?  Janel has said that Mona is absolutely dead.  This isn’t some kind of fake-out, like back in season 3 when Spencer thought Toby was dead.  However, Janel will be returning to PLL as Mona in flashbacks.

I’ll always love the episode when Hanna and Mona go horseback riding in an attempt to bond with Hanna’s stepsister, Kate.  Mona gives Hanna tips on survival and Hanna says “when there’s a nuclear war, I guess it’s gonna be Mona and a million cockroaches."  Hands down, this was probably my favorite Mona episode.  Mona was both hilarious and genuinely seemed to want to help Hanna.  At the same time, we know she was “A”.  Such complexities.

The sad part of Mona’s death is that there are so many unresolved Mona issues.  Was anyone else hoping Mona and Hanna might repair their friendship?  Mona and Hanna’s relationship has been complicated.  After all, Mona rammed Hanna with her car at her birthday party.  Yet there were also some genuinely sweet moments where Mona seemed to really care about Hanna.  And it seemed like maybe Hanna and Aria were starting to warm up to Mona.  It would have been great to see Mona and Mike’s relationship develop a bit more, too.  And adding Mona to the core Liars group would have made for a great team with a fighting chance against "A".

So rest in peace Mona Vanderwaal.  She went down helping the Liars, so maybe she redeemed herself a little before she was killed off?  At least she got to apologize to the Liars for being the original “A”.

Who else is devastated that Mona Vanderwaal was killed off?

Recap of “Taking This One to the Grave” PLL Episode 5x12

It’s a bloody Thanksgiving for the Pretty Little Liars.  Mona’s mom is incredibly sweet, Emily gets into the Christmas spirit early, Mona decides to help the Liars, Alison throws Spencer under the bus, someone is murdered and a Liar gets arrested for murder in episode 5x12 "Taking This One to the Grave".

It’s Thanksgiving day.  Ezra holds Aria while Emily hugs Hanna, who is crying.  A police officer wants to take Hanna to the porch of the crime scene and take her statement, but Hanna refuses to go back to the house.  Aria tells Ezra that there was too much blood for anyone to have lived through that.  The girls get a text “It’s all your fault. –A”

Flashback to 36 hours earlier.

Ali is being hooked up to a polygraph machine.  Officer Holbrook is watching from another room.  He’s not willing to wait for Lt. Tanner.  The administrator of the lie detector test explains that truth uses memory and lies use imagination.

Mona is listening to French music and reading on her bed.  Her bedroom, of course, has a lot of dolls in it.  Mona’s mom, who we meet for the first time, tells Mona she has company.

Mona goes downstairs to find all the Liars waiting for her.  Hanna explains that they need her help.  Mona immediately realizes they came about Alison.  The Liars explain that Ali is at the police station and they don’t know what she is telling the police.  The girls have been lying for Ali ever since she came back.  They can’t ask Ali what she’s telling the cops because Ali will just lie.  Who better to ask for help from than Mona?

Mona tells the girls that Alison stole her life when she crowned Mona Rosewood’s biggest loser.  Alison was so convincing that even Mona started to believe it.  Mona knows that she owes the girls after everything she did to them.  However, she is already #1 on Alison’s hit list.  She doesn’t want to think about what Alison will do to her if she finds out Mona is helping the girls.  Spencer is surprised Mona is so scared of Alison, but Mona points out that all the Liars are just as scared as she is.

Mona’s mom brings out freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, which she remembers are Hanna’s favorite.  When Emily says that they can’t stay, Mona’s mom seems disappointed.  She offers to pack up the cookies for them.  Mona asks if the girls have ever been so focused on something that it just takes over and turns you into something you are not.  Mona finally apologizes for all she did to them as the original “A”.  She knows she took her “Ali anger” out on them and she’s sorry for that.

Aria, Spencer and Emily head toward the door, but Hanna stays behind with Mona to wait for the cookies.  The girls are still worried about Melissa’s confession video.  Emily is focused on the fact that Melissa killed Bethany Young.  Spencer defends Melissa, who was just trying to protect her.  Besides, in Melissa’s story Spencer is an accessory to murder, at best.

Mona’s mom brings Hanna a Tupperware filled with chocolate chip cookies, which Hanna says is still her favorite kind.  Mona leaves Hanna alone with her mom, but secretly listens by the stairs.

Mona’s mom asks if the bullying has started again, now that Alison is back.  Hanna doesn’t know what Ali is doing, since she isn’t friends with her anymore.  Hanna tells Mona’s mom that Mona is afraid of Alison.  Hanna confesses that they are all afraid of Alison.

Mona goes to her bedroom and calls someone.  Mona says to “send out a code “A”.  She’s plotting something big”.

Mona rushes to a meeting location, afraid someone was following her.  She asks Lucas where everyone else is.  Lucas says no one else is coming.  Alison has convinced everyone in Mona’s Army that she is a saint and Mona is “Crazy Mona”.  Mona asks if it’s possible to be crazy and not know it.  Lucas tells her that she can’t believe that.  Otherwise, Ali wins.  Mona clarifies that she’s talking about Alison.  Mona thinks Alison has gone full on sociopath.

Mona and the Liars meet up in the school bathroom.  Mona explains that Alison volunteered to take the polygraph test.  Mona thinks this is all a game to Alison. Alison isn’t having fun anymore, since she can’t play with her dolls anymore (Emily, Aria, Hanna and Spencer).  Alison is ending the game that she stole from Mona.  Mona thinks Alison is “A”.

Mona says Alison assembled the perfect group.  Spencer is smart, Emily is loyal, Hanna is admiring and Aria is compassionate.  Spencer catches on to what Mona is saying.  It was the perfect group for a sociopath to manipulate.  Alison would have gotten bored with one of them, but all together the girls were a challenge.

Aria admits that she never knew why Ali wanted to be friends with her.  Mona says that when a person doesn’t feel anything, it is fun to mess with someone who feels a lot.  Alison picked Aria because Aria cares, which is something Alison can’t do.  Emily realizes that Ali never loved her, but Aria says Ali never loved any of them.  Spencer thinks Ali went to the cops to convince the police that she is innocent and the other Liars are guilty.

Mona agrees to help find out what Alison told the cops, in order to give the Liars a fighting chance to get their stories straight.  Hanna wonders why Mona is helping them.  Mona got accepted early admission to three colleges, but she can’t survive senior year alone.  Emily warns Mona that this isn’t going to make them best friends.  Mona doesn’t want to hold hands in the hallway.  In fact, she doesn’t want anyone to find out she is helping them.  This includes the Liars bed buddies.  Mona wants the girls to act normal.

The twins Cindy and Mindy enter the bathroom and go into stalls.  As soon as Mona and the Liars leave, the twins open the stall doors and smile at each other.

At her locker, Emily tells Paige that she’s behind with her Christmas decorating.  Paige offers to help.  Emily mentions that they never got to have their talk.  Paige is tired of talking, so she kisses Emily.  Paige and Emily both look happy after the kiss.

Mona’s mom leaves Principal Hackett’s office.  Mona sees her mom in the hallway, but Mona’s mom claims she was in the cafeteria dropping off food for the holiday food drive.

Mona sees Alison down the hall with her new gang of friends.   There’s an announcement on the intercom, requesting that Ali report to the principal’s office.  Ali smiles at Mona as she passes, while Mona looks freaked out.

Aria wipes pumpkin guts off Ezra’s face while Ezra makes homemade pumpkin pie.  Aria thinks they should just buy pies from Paula’s.  Ezra wants to impress Aria’s family, since he is invited to Thanksgiving dinner.  Aria bluntly points out that her family will be too busy judging him, so they won’t have time to judge his cooking.  Her family wants to make sure Ezra’s worth a second look.  Ezra feels like a used car.  Soon Aria’s family will start kicking his tires and checking under the hood.

Spencer flips through a photo album.  She looks at a photo of herself with Aria, Hanna, Emily and Ali.  Ali wrote on the photo “My four besties.  Kisses Ali”.  Toby comes in wearing his police uniform.  Spencer and Toby playfully flirt before Spencer hands over a present.  It’s an engraved pocket watch that says “You are my once upon a time. – S”.

Mona enlists Lucas’s help to find out what Alison told the cops.  Lucas goes to the Rosewood Police Station, pretending to be interested in the high school liaison program.  When the cop leaves the room to get an application, Lucas connects to the police station computer and text “Go” to Mona, who’s sitting in the bathroom with her laptop.  Mona has trouble downloading the files without a password, but eventually she is able to copy all the files.

Emily, full of holiday spirit, recruits Paige, Hanna and Caleb to help decorate her house with Christmas decorations.  Emily is refusing to let Ali take away her holiday traditions.  Hanna’s not feeling the Christmas spirit.  Emily warns Hanna that if she can’t find Christmas in her heart, she won’t find it under the tree.  Caleb, disturbed by Emily’s cheerful disposition, wonders what is wrong with Emily.  Emily gets concerned when she can’t find the Jesus that belongs in the nativity scene, but Paige finds it.

Mona calls Hanna, who lies to Caleb and says it is her mom calling.  Caleb has a chat with Emily and realizes her Christmas spirit stems from the fact that her dad always finds a way to come home for Christmas.  Looking at the decorations is how she and her mom remind themselves that Emily’s dad will be home soon.

Hanna lies to Caleb, saying her mom wanted cranberries.  Emily accidentally contradicts Hanna’s lie.  Emily goes off to help Paige with decorations, and Caleb asks Hanna what is going on.

Mona shows Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna the video of Ali’s polygraph test.  Ali tells the cops that Aria, Hanna and Emily were in the barn the night Bethany Young was murdered.  She says Spencer came to her house that night.  Ali acknowledges that she was the unofficial leader of the group.  She thinks her friends would do anything to help her.

The police want to know if Spencer was a loyal friend.  Ali says Spencer was angry and emotional that night.  Ali knew Spencer was abusing pills, but she promised not to tell.  Ali tells the cops that she didn’t have anything to do with Bethany Young’s murder.

Emily doesn’t think the polygraph tapes showed anything incriminating.  Mona says the important thing is the questions the police asked.  The police obviously suspect Spencer killed Bethany Young.  Caleb comes in.  Hanna is annoyed, but Mona admits that she asked him for help.  She knew Hanna would blab to Caleb, anyway.

Aria and Spencer are annoyed, since they didn’t tell their bed buddies.  Hanna is sorry, but she couldn’t lie to Caleb’s adorable face.  Caleb is impressed with Mona’s military grade decoding program.  He was able to unlock two more files.

The Rosewood cops were granted access to Radley files.  Officer Holbrook sent the DA a statement that the police no longer consider Alison DiLaurentis a person of interest in Bethany Young’s murder.  The police believe Spencer murdered Bethany to gain favor with Ali, the leader of their group.  They think Spencer would do anything for Ali, in order to keep her pill abuse a secret.  This means Ali is totally off the hook and Spencer’s now on it.

Spencer knows there will soon be an arrest warrant.  She's about to call Toby and her parents, but Mona suggests that they find out what the cops saw in Bethany’s Radley files.  Emily agrees, since it may give them a link between Ali and Bethany.  Spencer doesn’t want her friends to get in the middle of this mess, but her friends are quick to say that they will all stick together.  Mona looks a little left out while the Liars huddle together.  Spencer agrees to go along with Mona’s plan.

Caleb uses his hacking skills to help Mona and Spencer sneak into Radley.  Hanna stays in the car with him and gives coded messages to Mona and Spencer, who are dressed as nurses.  Spencer gets a text from Toby and she worries about making it to his ceremony in time.

Emily calls Paige and tells her that she’s sick with a scratchy throat.  Ali comes in.  She was surprised to get Emily’s message, since Emily made her feelings crystal last time they spoke.  Emily gets a text message from Hanna, but claims it’s from her mom who’s doing some last minute shopping.

Ali wants to know what Emily wants.  Emily says it bothers her that it is Thanksgiving, but she and Ali aren’t on speaking terms.  Ali tells Emily that she was the one she trusted the most.  She wasn’t surprised when the others turned on her.  Ali is about to leave, but Emily tells her that she doesn’t want things like this.

Aria is supervising art classes at Radley.  To create a distraction so Spencer and Mona can sneak past the nurse’s desk, Aria drops a glass jar of red paint on the floor.

Hanna and Caleb freak out when they see Officer Holbrook going into Radley.  Hanna warns Mona and Spencer that they’ve got company.

Officer Holbrook stands above Aria, who’s wiping the paint off the floor, and tells her that she’s made quite a mess of things.  Aria thinks Holbrook asks her when the lies, cover-ups, and murders started.  However, really he asked her when she started the volunteer program.  He wants to know if it was before or after the police identified Bethany Young’s body.  He asks if the volunteer work was Spencer’s idea, but Aria firmly says no.

Hanna leaves a message for Emily, updating her on the Officer Holbrook situation.  Caleb finds a list of colleges in the car.  Hanna says she did so good on the SATs that the guidance counselor accused her of cheating.

Ali doesn’t think the other Liars will let Emily be friends with her.  Emily makes it clear that she makes her own decisions.  It’s not a group vote.  Ali, tricking Emily, asks for some tea.  As soon as Emily gets up, Ali grabs Emily’s phone.  Ali knew Emily was lying, since Emily’s mom never shops at the last minute.  Ali sees the text from Hanna, asking if Emily is still keeping Ali busy.  Now Ali definitely knows that the girls suspect she is “A”.  Emily asks if she is, but Ali doesn’t answer.  Emily says it must hurt when the loyal one betrays her.  Ali purposely knocks into Emily on her way to the door.

Paige, worried about Emily’s sickness, brings her soup.  Before going in, she sees the twins Cindy and Mindy waiting in a car nearby.  Ali leaves Emily’s house and gets in the car.  Paige follows Ali and the twins.

Mona and Spencer find records of all Bethany Young’s sessions.  Mona says she got into Yale, Harvard and Dartmouth.  She’s passing on them, since they didn’t offer her a full ride.  She offers to help Spencer with colleges, but Spencer isn’t interested in Mona’s help.  Mona puts the records in her bag.  Spencer asks for the tape from August 8th.  They play the tape and hear Bethany talking about all the lies Ms. DiLaurentis told her.  Spencer realizes Ms. DiLaurentis was having an affair with Bethany’s father.  On the tape, Bethany asks if she can trust anyone in the DiLaurentis family.  She wonders if the mother is like the daughter.  Spencer and Mona realize Ali may have known Bethany.

Spencer and Mona sneak out of Radley.  Toby calls Spencer, wondering where she is.  While on the phone, Toby gets in a car accident.

It’s Thanksgiving day and Emily is stuck working at the Brew.  Aria tries to convince Spencer that Toby’s accident isn’t her fault.  Spencer was at the hospital all night.  They look at Toby, who has a cast on his leg.  Spencer has already updated Toby on everything that’s happened.

Paige tells Emily that she stopped by last night to bring her soup.  Emily tries to explain why she lied, but Paige doesn’t care about that.  She says she followed Ali, Cindy and Mindy to an abandoned farm.  There were dozens of cars out there.  Paige tells them that Ali is building an army of her own.

Officer Holbrook comes in and arrests Spencer for the murder of Bethany Young.  Hanna, Aria and Emily all yell that Spencer didn’t do anything.

Mona reviews the Radley transcripts in her room.  Hanna calls to tell Mona that the cops arrested Spencer.  Mona’s mom leaves for the family Thanksgiving dinner.  Mona promises to be there soon.  She locks the house door, afraid someone is watching her.

Ezra brings two pies to Aria’s house.  Aria explains that her mom has been on the phone with Spencer’s mom.  Mona calls Aria and tells her that Ali lured Bethany to Rosewood.  Ali knew about her mom’s affair.  Ali was jealous and wanted Bethany dead.  Mona knows Ali is “A” and she can prove it.  Ezra and Aria rush out the door and head to Mona’s house.

Someone in a black hoodie and wearing black gloves breaks into Mona’s house.  We see the person has long blonde hair.  Mona looks in her mirror and says “Game over Alison.  I win.”  The intruder enters her bedroom and Mona looks frightened.

Aria, Ezra, Hanna and Emily arrive at Mona’s house to find blood everywhere.  We hear one of the Liars scream loudly after going into Mona’s bedroom.

Police tape off Mona’s house as a crime scene.  Outside, Caleb holds Hanna, Paige huddles with Emily, and Ezra holds Aria.  Unseen by them, Ali watches from afar.

Officer Holbrook announces that they did not find a body.  However, the amount of blood found in the house suggests that this was a fatal attack.  Mona Vanderwaal was murdered.  Mona’s mom cries, anguished.  Lucas watches, horrified.

Ali is the only one not upset at the crime scene.  She looks satisfied as she watches everyone.  She leaves while everyone else is mourning.

The murderer takes Emily’s Jesus from the nativity scene and places it in the trunk of a car, on top of Mona’s dead body.  The murderer places a Mona doll in Jesus’ crib on Emily’s front lawn.

“A” cuts out a photo of the Emily, Hanna, Aria and Spencer and places it inside a snow globe.  Ali is noticeably not in the photo.  Is “A” no longer after Alison and only targeting the Liars?

Lucy Hale Excited to Meet Taylor Swift at VMAs

Lucy Hale was a host for the VMA pre-show last night. She was busy on the red carpet, interviewing stars like Miley Cyrus and handing out awards. However, she was most excited to meet country singer Taylor Swift.

Here’s a video of Lucy Hale meeting Taylor Swift for the first time.  Lucy Hale had a bit of a fangirl moment.  Lucy's co-host Sway tried to set up a song collaboration between Lucy and Taylor, which Lucy said she'd be honored to do.

Lucy Hale was also excited to see Miley Cyrus.  Lucy and Miley have known each other for ten years.  Lucy was Miley’s first friend when she moved to Los Angeles.

Lucy Hale gave a Moonman award to “5 Seconds of Summer”, who beat out Demi Lovato and won for best lyric video.

Adam Levine stopped by to chat with Lucy and showed off his Lakers shirt.

And Austin Mahone told Lucy about the craziest dares his fans came up with, which included coming to the VMAs on a tank and dropping in from a helicopter.

What do you think about a music collaboration between Taylor Swift and Lucy Hale?

The fAtal Finale is next Tuesday night and someone will die.  Here’s what we know so far:

The murder is violent, resulting in a large amount of blood at the crime scene.  Hanna is devastated as the girls get a text from “A” that says “It’s all your fault”.  Aria is shocked to hear Mona’s theory that Ali is “A” and a sociopath.  Ali’s pissed off at Emily.  And someone gets arrested.

Officer Holbrook wants the truth from Alison and he’s not going to wait around for Lt. Tanner.  Officer Holbrook has Alison take a lie detector test at the police station.

Hanna and Caleb are the lookouts for Mona and Spencer, who are breaking into Radley.  No candy striper outfits this time though.  They are both dressed as nurses.  And Hanna, always with the best lines, forgets to use the secret code phrase when she frantically warns them that Officer Holbrook is coming in.

Emily is responsible for keeping Ali busy while the Liars are putting their plan into action.  Ali looks at Emily’s phone and finds out that the Liars think she is "A".

Emily, Hanna and Caleb are busy putting up Christmas decorations.  Seems like Emily is the only one with Christmas spirit, though.

In the Canadian promo, Mona tells someone to send out a code “A”.  Mona knows Ali is plotting something big.  Spencer is worried that she is an accessory to murder in Melissa’s story.  Hanna lies to Caleb.  Paige warns everyone that Ali is building an army of her own.

Recap of “No One Here Can Love or Understand Me” PLL Episode 5x11

Aria and Mona have a heart-to-heart, Emily suspects Alison is “A” and Spencer finally learns Melissa’s secret.

In a throwback to “Whirly Girlie”, the Liars are back in front of the Rosewood Police Station, only this time they are without Alison.  Emily, Hanna and Spencer seem sure that telling the truth is the right thing, but Aria is silent.  Before the Liars can go in, they turn around to see the televisions in the store behind them all switch to a photo of Ali in a candy striper outfit (from when she visited the hospital after Hanna got hit by the car at Mona's party).  There is a message from “A”: “We’re in this together”.

Now that “A” has photo evidence of Ali visiting Hanna when she was supposedly dead, the Liars can’t go to the police.  No one would believe that they didn’t know Ali was alive.  Furious, Spencer grabs a brick to throw at the televisions.  Her friends stop her before she goes through with it.  The screens switch to live camera footage of all the girls.  There’s a new message: “Act normal, bitches".

Emily and Spencer stop at the Brew, Aria heads home, and Hanna goes to check on Caleb.  Emily orders two decaf coffees loaded with whip cream.  Emily thinks the “We’re all in this together” threat was not from “A”, but from Ali.  Spencer says it may also be “A” tricking them into thinking it was Ali.

Ali calls Spencer, but Spencer ignores the call.  Emily explains that she wasn’t defending Ali these past few weeks.  She’s been defending someone from a long time ago.  A person who never existed.  Emily now realizes that what she had with Paige was so genuine.  Spencer asks if Emily can fix her relationship with Paige, but Emily doesn’t think it will be easy.

Ali now calls Emily, who also doesn’t pick up.  Emily reads a message from Ali and learns that Ali’s dad is taking her out of town because he’s worried about the kidnapper being on the loose.

Caleb is asleep when Hanna arrives at the cabin.  She kisses him and accidently scares him.  Hanna realizes that Caleb has been drinking again.  Hanna is upset, since they had an understanding that they would stop drinking.  Caleb says drinking helps him sleep.

Hanna explains that they never got inside the police station.  They can’t tell the cops the truth when “A” has photos of Ali leaving the hospital when she was supposed to be dead.  Now they are back where they started.

Aria comes home and is disturbed to see Mike and Mona back together again.  Mona offers Mike and Aria some hot chocolate.

Emily goes to Ezra’s apartment to ask for help investigating Ali’s connection to Cyrus Petrillo.  Ezra and Emily think Cyrus confessed to a crime he didn’t commit because someone had something worse to blackmail him with.  Emily shows Ezra one of Noel’s photos of Ali when she was supposed to be dead.  Ezra agrees to investigate more.  Emily makes it clear that she only trusting him with this because he is the only person who might be able to help her.

Aria does some homework in her room.  Her dad, Byron, lets her know that Mike took Mona home.  Aria warns her dad that Mike and Mona’s relationship is a bad idea.  Aria doesn’t believe that Mona genuinely likes Mike.  Aria’s dad knows Aria has a lot of history with Mona.  However, warning Mike about Mona will only make Mike upset with them.  Aria’s dad suggests that they keep their distance from the relationship, but also keep an eye on it.  Aria agrees to try.  Aria’s dad mentions that they will be going out for a family movie night tomorrow.

Emily, Hanna and Spencer all agree that Mike deserves someone better than Mona.  Aria knows they can’t do anything about it, since interfering will only drive Mike and Mona closer together.  Still thinking about last night's threat, Hanna points out that “A” isn’t the only one who wants to keep them quiet.  Alison does, too.

Hanna asks Spencer if she can get the number of Dean, Spencer's former sober coach.  She’s worried about Caleb’s drinking.  Spencer doesn’t think Hanna can introduce Caleb to a stranger and get him to talk about addiction.  Spencer can think of a better person to talk to Caleb.

Emily explains to Paige that Sydney turned out to be a liar.  Emily isn’t kicking her off the swim team, though.  She wants to keep an eye on her.  Emily only sees Paige at swim practice, so she asks to meet up with Paige later.  Paige is busy tonight, but she does think they should talk.

Spencer calls Toby and asks him to come over to help Caleb.  Hanna isn’t sure Toby can help, but Spencer tells her to never underestimate the power of a good bromance.  Spencer finds a letter from Melissa.  The letter says that their dad is taking her to the airport, but she promises that Spencer will know everything soon.

Emily, Aria and Hanna are walking toward the Mermaid Café, discussing the note Melissa left for Spencer.  None of the girls have been answering Ali’s calls.  Hanna wonders why Ali was able to leave town, after “A” clearly said that she couldn’t.  Aria points out that Ali made a deal with Noel before.  They wonder if Ali made a deal with “A” to leave town.  The girls run into Lt. Tanner, who wants to have a talk with them.

Spencer and Toby get some quality kissing time in at Spencer’s empty house.  The last time Toby saw Caleb was a couple nights after his house blew up.  Spencer tells him that Hanna has stopped drinking, but Caleb hasn’t.  Spencer thinks Caleb looks haunted.  Toby says Caleb has looked that way ever since he came back from Ravenswood.

Lt. Tanner assures the girls that the police will catch Cyrus Petrillo.  Tanner asks who the girls think killed Bethany Young.  She finds it strange that none of the girls have wondered about it.  Tanner says they haven’t found a single connection between the girls and Bethany Young, except that she was murdered 30 yards away from the girls’ sleepover.  Tanner leaves and Aria is on the verge of throwing up.

Spencer calls Hanna and tells her to get Caleb to the Apple Rose Grille.  Hanna tells Spencer that Tanner thinks they killed Bethany Young.  Spencer is certain that there isn’t any connection between them and Bethany, but Hanna points out that they recently made connections.  Aria got Bethany’s drawings and Spencer went to the stables to find out about Bethany’s horse.  Hanna doesn’t think the police believe Ali’s lies and the cops still think the girls are the five Mouseketeers.

A package is delivered to Spencer’s house while she is talking to Hanna.  Toby shows her the envelope, which is from Melissa.

Alone, Spencer watches the video Melissa sent her.  In the video, Melissa explains that she's going back to England.  Their dad has been pushing her to go back ever since he learned her secret.  Melissa heard Spencer and Ali fighting the night Ali disappeared.  She also saw Spencer with a shovel.  Melissa says that everyone who made the mistake of touching Ali was there that night.

Melissa saw the body and at the time, she thought Spencer killed Ali.  Melissa couldn’t look at the face, so she just pushed the body into the hole and buried the body.  Now she realizes that she buried Bethany Young alive.  Melissa just wanted to protect Spencer.

Melissa thinks sometimes people cross the line from survivor to predator.  She thinks that is what happened to them.  Spencer is shocked by Melissa’s confession.

Hanna, Spencer and Toby are at the Apple Rose Grille, ready for Caleb’s intervention.  Hanna is nervous and warns Toby not to rush into it.  She’ll tap his foot when she thinks it is time to bring up Caleb’s drinking.  Caleb comes in and Toby jumps straight into the confrontation by asking why Caleb can’t sleep.  Toby says they are all worried about him.  Hanna stares at Spencer, irritated by Toby’s lack of tact.  Spencer suggests that this must be how boys communicate.  Caleb is ready to bolt, but stays when Toby says that Hanna is scared.

Emily is surprised to see Paige buying two coffees at the Brew.  Paige is dressed up and Emily realizes that Paige must have plans with someone.

Aria arrives at the theater and unexpectedly finds Mona there.  Apparently, Aria’s mom had to cancel and Mike invited Mona instead.  Aria is forced to sit next to her.  Aria is surprised to see Paige come in with a date.

Hanna and Spencer sit at the bar, while Toby and Caleb talk at the table.  Hanna doesn’t understand why Caleb can’t talk to her.  Perhaps thinking about Melissa, Spencer says that sometimes people can’t tell the truth because they are afraid of what you’ll think of them.  Maybe they’re afraid that they let you down or you let them down.  Hanna thinks if you love someone, you should be able to tell them anything.

Caleb tells Toby that drinking to help fall asleep is human nature.  Toby pushes him to deal with his problems.  He asks what is scaring Caleb so much that he would rather drink and push Hanna away, rather than deal with it.  Caleb storms off without giving an answer.

Aria, unable to continue watching Mike and Mona together, whispers something to Mona.  Mona immediately fights back tears.  Mona quickly leaves her seat.  Paige and Mike watch her leave.

Spencer tries to enjoy dinner, but Toby isn’t feeling up to it.  He blames himself for messing up Caleb’s intervention.  He wants to take off, but Spencer begs him not to go.  Spencer tells him Melissa’s going-away present was the truth.  She has no idea what to do with it.

Ezra tells Emily that the photo of Ali was taken 16 months ago.  He was able to find another photo, which clearly shows Cyrus Petrillo standing next to Ali in front of an ATM.  Ezra says Cyrus uses a few different names.  He’s been arrested half a dozen times for petty crime.  He doesn’t have any convictions.  Emily wonders what Ali promised him to make him confess.  Emily knows Ali has an amazing gift of knowing what people want and what is missing in their lives.  Ezra thinks that is a special talent that causes a lot of damage.

Mike is worried about Mona, who’s been gone a long time.  Aria agrees to check on her.  Aria finds Mona wiping tears away in the bathroom.  Mona says Ali underestimated Aria.  Aria knows where to put the knife and is not afraid to twist it.  Aria apologizes for what she said, but Mona isn’t buying it.  Mona realizes that Aria is right.  Aria’s dad should throw her out of the house after all the things she did to Aria and the way she treated Mike.  Mona knows Mike deserves someone nice.  Mona admits that nice is not something she is.

Crying, Mona says she should have died when she fell off the cliff.  Horrified, Aria says that Mona should never say that.  Mona explains that all she has been doing is protecting herself from Alison.  Aria realizes that’s the reason Mona built an army.  Mona says it is hard to keep the troops in line when Ali offers them candy, a smile and that lilting laugh.

Mona warns Aria that Ali will come after the Liars after she is finished destroying Mona.  Ali can’t trust them after Cyrus and New York.  Mona knows some things about New York and she can guess about other things.  In a moment of vulnerability, Mona asks Aria if Mike really likes her.

Spencer watches Melissa’s confession again, still conflicted by what she’s learned.

Aria’s dad asks Aria what happened with Mona at the theater.  Aria doesn’t give details, since things said in the powder room stay in the powder room.  However, Aria now thinks everything will be okay with Mike and Mona.  She just needs to keep an eye on Mona.  There is a knock at the door and Aria’s dad says it must be Lt. Tanner.

Caleb immediately starts packing a bag, ready to run.  Hanna turns on the light and tells him that she’s been waiting for an hour.  She came to apologizes for the intervention, but she’s changed her mind.  She spent the last hour worried he was hurt or in an accident.  He can’t take care of himself right now.  Hanna will fight for him, but he has to trust her.  If he doesn’t trust her, then she might as well help him pack.

Aria’s dad expresses his displeasure at Tanner for talking to the girls without adults around.  Tanner denies breaking any rules.  Aria’s dad suggests that the police focus on finding the kidnapper.  Tanner wonders why a person who has confessed to murder would suddenly disappear the moment he is released.  In her experience working homicides, the cases usually become less complicated.  When a homicide gets more complicated over time, it usually means someone smart is doing that on purpose.

Aria’s dad is only interested in how this concerns Aria.  Tanner thinks Aria may be involved in a homicide, but she is certain that Aria is involved in the complications of the case.  Tanner has been waiting for one of the girls to step up and tell the truth.  Now one girl has come forward and Tanner plans to have an enlightening conversation with her tomorrow.  Aria’s dad asks which girl wants to talk, but Tanner doesn’t answer.  Aria, who was listening to the conversation from another room, meets up to tell her friends what Tanner said.

Hanna isn’t answering her phone, so Aria just meets with Spencer and Emily.  The girls realize it must be Ali who is going to talk to Tanner.  Emily thinks they can stop her with Ezra’s photo of Cyrus with Ali at the ATM.  The photo may end Ali’s kidnap lie, depending on what truth Ali decides to tell this time.  Spencer decides to show the girls Melissa’s video confession.

Caleb explains what happened in Ravenswood.  The town made a pact/contract with the preacher.  That meant there were loopholes.  They took jars down to the bridge and opened them, releasing whatever was inside.  The air was filled with millions of fireflies.  Grunwald called it ‘great ascendency’.  Since then, there were no demons, no messages and no revenge.  No Miranda, either.  Hanna tries to convince Caleb that he kept his promise and took care of Miranda.  Caleb has trouble believing that.

Caleb says that he isn’t the same person he was when he left.  He can sleep, but he’s afraid of his dreams.  After Miranda died, she talked to him in his dream.  Caleb is afraid that Miranda will tell him it was all wrong and it’s all his fault.  Hanna says that she’s changed, too.  They can get through this together.  She didn’t come this far not to have a happy ending.  While they kiss, the Ouija pointer points to ‘goodbye’.

Spencer, Aria and Emily discuss Melissa killing Bethany Young.  Spencer says Melissa thought she was burying a dead body.  The girls wonder why Bethany was wearing a duplicate set of Ali’s clothes.  They realize that it was always someone’s idea for Bethany to take Ali’s place.  Emily thinks they need to find a way around the picture of “A” in the hospital.  Aria and Spencer wonder why Emily said “A” instead of Ali.  Emily says it was a slip of the tongue.

Caleb sleeps, while Hanna watches the fireflies outside.
