No chance of PLL Spinoff or PLL Movie?

Is there really no chance for a PLL movie? Pretty Little Liars has officially been cancelled, so any news of a future PLL movie would be great. A spinoff seems unlikely, since the PLL spinoff Ravenswood was cancelled after just one season. However, the idea of a Pretty Little Liars movie was always embraced by the cast and crew of the show. There is some conflicting information on the possibility of a movie. A PLL movie seems unlikely given according to Freeform’s executive vice president of programming and development. However, PLL showrunner Marlene King is leaving the door open for a future movie.

Karey Burke, Freeform’s executive vice president of programming and development, was asked by Variety about the possibility of a PLL movie. “About a year ago, Marlene and Shay Mitchell told me that a movie and an eighth season were “very possible.” Any chance for a Pretty Little Liars movie, or is this really the end?” Variety asked.

“Oh no, this is really the end. The community surrounding the show is very protective over it, as they should be because it’s a show that the narrative is built on mystery and secrets, so I think that everybody was being very protective of the destiny of the show. I think the reason there has been speculation is because I think the people involved love doing the show. It’s not a show that really anybody wanted to leave or wanted to end. I think the community around the show has formed a wonderful family who would want to continue to work together, as long as it made sense for the story. As much as there’s a lot of wishful thinking and speculation surrounding anything like this, this has been the understood and agreed-upon natural finishing point” Karey Burke answered.

In the past, numerous members of the PLL cast and crew have supported the idea of a PLL movie. When PLL showrunner Marlene King was recently asked about a PLL movie, she didn’t rule it out. “I would say, probably to make myself feel better about the show coming to an end, we’re very open to finding ways to keep these characters alive. I hope that down the line, we find a way to bring all the girls back together again. It’s such a fun world to play in that we’re always keeping that option open”, Marlene told Variety.

Despite these recent comments from Karey Burke, I’m still hoping for a PLL movie in the future! I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to PLL. Are you ready to say goodbye to PLL or do you want a future movie?
