The show is based on the popular book series The Perfectionists by author Sara Shepard, who also wrote the book series Pretty Little Liars. Everything about the town of Beacon Heights seems perfect, from their top-tier college to their overachieving residents. But nothing in Beacon Heights is as it appears to be. The stress of needing to be perfect leads to the town’s first murder. Behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie and a needed alibi.
Ava Jalali is a trendsetting blogger and coder who strives to be a fashion icon, according to Deadline.
Sofia Carson and showrunner Marlene King announced the casting news in the video below:
Sophia Carson was excited to audition for The Perfectionists, since she was already a huge Pretty Little Liars fan. "I told [Marlene King] that I was just the biggest -- the biggest -- fan of Pretty Little Liars. I was obsessed with it -- as so many of us were. It was such a phenomenon, so to be part of that legacy is truly an honor," Sophia told ET Online.
Sophia also described how she felt when she found out she got the role of Ava on The Perfectionists. "And when I found out [that I got the role], Marlene called me last Monday and she was like, 'Guess what? You're my new Pretty Little Liar,' and I was like, 'Oh my gosh! That is the coolest thing! I will never ever get used to hearing that -- ever.'"
Fellow castmates Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish were quick to welcome Sofia Carson to the Perfectionists family.

You may recognize Sofia Carson as Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen, on Disney Channel’s Descendants. She is also a talented singer who has released numerous singles including "Love Is the Name" and "Ins and Outs".
