Do you remember which PLL season one episode got you hooked on the show? According to Netflix, it probably wasn’t the pilot episode.
Netflix did a study examining which episode hooks fans onto a television show. They used viewing patterns to figure out which episode resulted in 70% of viewers deciding to watch the entire season of the show. Surprisingly, the pilot episode of a show isn’t the episode that gets people to stay with a show for the rest of the season.
For Pretty Little Liars, 1x04 “Can You Hear Me Now” was the episode that hooked fans. In that episode, “A” sends a note to Aria’s mom. Aria’s mom finds out her husband had an affair with his student and that Aria kept it a secret.
The fourth episode seemed to be a common episode that got people hooked on a series. Shows like Better Call Saul, Bloodline and Grace & Frankie also hooked people by the fourth episode. Some shows, like Breaking Bad and Bates Motel, hooked people by the second episode.
This data supports using a service like Netflix’s where you can watch an entire season of a show all at once, but be careful about binge watching old seasons of PLL. The PLL cast was in a hilarious video that warned fans about the dangers of binge watching. PLL fans may start going crazy and suspecting that everyone is “A”.
The pilot of PLL was pretty good. Were you obsessed with PLL after watching the pilot episode or did it take some time to get addicted to PLL? Which episode hooked you on Pretty Little Liars?
