Spencer and Emily are
pissed at Hanna for keeping Ali’s journal a secret. Hanna argues that the journal stories are
personal and contain things they might not know about each other. Aria interrupts the argument and puts the
focus back on the journal. Since Hanna
couldn’t make sense of the journal, the girls decide to take turns reading it.
Emily falls asleep with
the journal open on her bed. She wakes
up to find Ali in her room. Ali says
she’s missed Emily so much, but Emily is furious at Ali for leaving. Ali begs Emily not to be mad, reminding Emily
that she’s saved her life twice and risked everything for her. Emily doesn’t respond when Ali asks if she’s
glad that Ali is alive. Ali doesn’t know
who is after her. Emily always saw the
best version of her and she needs that now.
Emily says she doesn’t see that anymore. Ali points out that Emily’s wearing the
bracelet she gave her. Emily wakes up to
find the journal shut on the bed. Her
bracelet is in her jewelry box.
Spencer’s dad cancels his
meeting with Toby, claiming he’s in litigation all day. Spencer admits that she’s glad he
cancelled. She doesn’t know his real
motives for helping. Toby insists
that he needs to shut down Radley.
Spencer acts as lookout
while Aria leaves something in Ezra’s desk.
Aria claims she’s just returning a pen, but Spencer isn’t fooled. She simplifies Aria’s love life by pointing
out that Aria likes Jake, but she loves Ezra.
Emily explains her plan to
color code Ali’s journal based on who the entries are about. Hanna, acting weird, snatches the journal
away from Aria. Hanna tells the
girls that Caleb is not coming back, but claims that she’s totally fine. She changes the
subject by reading a poem from Ali’s journal titled “The Busy Bee”. It describes a hideaway. Aria remembers that her family used to eat
dinner at a bed and breakfast called the Busy Bee Inn. The girls decide to check out the inn later
that night. During this whole
conversation, Ezra has been watching them from afar.
Ezra tells Aria that he
got her note about tonight. Aria tells
him she has to cancel because the girls are taking Hanna out of town to
help her cope with the breakup. Ezra’s
full of questions, asking if they are all going and where they are planning to
go. He tells Aria that last night felt
right. Aria agrees, but she knows the
situation is not fair to Ezra or Jake.
After Aria leaves, Ezra resumes listening to a recording on his
computer. It’s a recording of Ali
talking about escaping. In the
recording, she is asking someone for help.
At work, Emily finds a
note from Alison asking her to meet at their spot. Emily heads to the kissing rock, but Ali
doesn’t show up. Emily leaves behind her
bracelet on the rock when she leaves.
Spencer overhears her dad
and Jessica DiLaurentis talking.
Jessica says that Jason doesn’t need to know. Spencer asks her what Jason doesn’t need to
know. Jessica says that she’s going
through a divorce and Spencer’s dad was giving her legal advice. Once Ms. DiLaurentis leaves, Spencer
confronts her dad. He just banned her
from talking to Ms. DiLaurentis, yet he’s home alone with her. Spencer’s dad denies that anything is going
on. He canceled on Toby after finding
out that Toby’s mom slipped and fell off the roof. It wasn’t a suicide, but it wasn’t a murder
either. Radley covered it up to protect
a fragile patient who was also on the roof.
Hanna runs into Travis
(the guy who knew her mom didn’t kill Wilden).
He heard on the news that CeCe was sighted at a train station in
Maryland. She was gone by the time the
police got there, but the police think someone paid CeCe to kill Wilden.
Spencer confronts Jessica
DiLaurentis at a coffee shop. She
demands that Ms. DiLaurentis stay away from her father. Ms. DiLaurentis insists that Spencer has the
wrong impression. Spencer yells that Ms.
DiLaurentis should find a lawyer that she hasn’t slept with and leave her
family out of it.
Later that night, the
girls start the roadtrip to the Busy Bee Inn.
They haven’t found anything in the journal about CeCe. Hanna reluctantly gives the journal to Spencer,
who takes pictures of an entry titled “Hot for Teacher”. Emily lies when Hanna asks Emily where she
was that afternoon. Aria figures that
“Human cheat sheet” must be a code name for Spencer and “Suzy Clueless” is
about herself. When they start talking
about the entry “Cradle Robber”, Hanna blasts the radio. Aria wonders if Ali was dating a younger guy
instead of an older one. Hanna looks
uncomfortable with the conversation.
While the girls are on
their road trip, Ezra visits Hanna’s house.
He tells Ms. Marin that he’s been easy on Hanna because of all the drama
at home, but she is in danger of failing his class. When Ms. Marin leaves the room to take a call,
Ezra sneaks into Hanna’s room. He
searches her bag and looks at her computer.
By the time Ms. Marin finishes her call, Ezra is back downstairs and Ms.
Marin is none the wiser.
Following the car’s GPS
leads the girls to the middle of nowhere.
Emily can’t get back on the highway because of construction. According to Aria’s phone, however, there is no
construction. The car breaks down and
Hanna asks Travis to tow the car. It’ll
take him a couple hours to get there and it’s about to rain, so Aria takes the
girls to Ezra’s cabin.
Spencer questions Hanna
about a page that’s been ripped out of the “Cradle Robber” story. Hanna insists that she didn’t rip anything
out and that she’s entitled to her privacy.
She points out that knowing each other’s secrets won’t help them bring
back Ali.
Once the girls reach the
cabin, Aria hides anything of Ezra’s.
The girls think that the cabin belongs to Aria’s uncle. Emily examines a painting of a train in the
room. (Did that painting remind anyone
else of the Halloween train?)
Spencer wants to find out
what Hanna is hiding, but Emily thinks Spencer is being too hard on Hanna. Maybe Hanna’s hiding something because she
knows Spencer wouldn’t understand. That
makes Spencer wonder what Emily is hiding.
Aria, once again playing peacemaker, says that no one is hiding anything
and changes the subject.
Hanna emerges from the
bathroom and confesses that the “Cradle Robber” story is about her and Mike
(Aria’s little brother). A flashback
shows Hanna and Alison arguing after Alison walked in on Hanna and Mike fooling
around. Poor Hanna is reduced to tears
as Ali tells her the whole thing is gross and that Aria will never be her
friend again if she finds out. Hanna doesn’t
think of herself as perfect looking like her friends and she doesn’t have lots
of guys chasing her. Besides, Mike is
nice to her. Hanna begs Ali not to tell
the girls and Ali finally agrees. She
says that Hanna will eventually find someone to love her for who she is, it
just might take longer for her.
Aria, keeping it classy,
tells Hanna that she wouldn’t have stopped being Hanna’s friend. It’s a little weird, but she’s mainly just
shocked that her brother didn’t blab about it.
Hanna thinks Mike was probably embarrassed. Aria denies that, assuring her that Mike had
a crush on her. Aria doesn’t know why
Hanna would still be upset over something that happened such a long time
ago. Hanna finally admits to the girls
that Caleb left her for someone else, but bolts when the girls ask questions. Emily follows her outside.
Spencer and Aria go to the
laundry room to find blankets. Suddenly
the door slams shut and the girls are locked inside. They peek through the key hole and see a
person dressed in all black pacing around the room. Afraid that “A” might hurt them, the girls go
to the window and scream for Emily and Hanna to help. Hanna and Emily break a window to get back inside. They realize Ali’s journal is gone and
someone has left Emily’s bracelet on the table.
Travis shows up at that moment to tow their car.
Back at Hanna’s house,
Travis refuses to accept money for the tow.
He just wants to be a good friend and a nice guy. Alone with Travis, Hanna finally breaks down
over Caleb. Travis stays with her while she cries.
Spencer’s dad lies to his
wife on the phone, claiming he was in mediation all day. Her dad is furious that Spencer talked to
Jessica DiLaurentis. He says that she’s
going to destroy the family if she keeps disobeying him. As long as she lives under his roof, she has
to stay away from Jessica DiLaurentis. So Spencer
decides to move in with Toby.
Aria and Ezra talk over
the phone. Ezra is at a gas station
wearing black clothing and a black baseball cap. When Aria asks if he got all his work done
(grading papers), he cryptically says that it took longer than expected, but
he got everything done that he needed to. They
say they love each other before hanging up.
Emily asks if Aria was talking to Jake.
Aria nods, but Emily can tell that Aria is lying. She confesses to Aria that she tried to meet
Ali alone.
Aria and Emily get a
text from “A”, a picture of the Busy Bee Inn.
It says “Looks like I’m winning.
Thanks for the tip.” They realize
that they helped give Ali to “A” by decoding Ali’s journal. The race is on to find Ali before “A”
does. Will the pretty little liars find
her in time?
“A” is busy typing away on
the computer. An apple sits on the table next to the computer.
Turns out “A” hacked into the GPS, using a bogus road closure to keep
the girls from reaching the Busy Bee Inn.
